Massage therapy & insurance: how it works in Calgary

If you have extended health benefits, your massage may cost you less than you think. Here's how to use them.

AK STAR · Calgary

Massage therapy at AK STAR is provided by Anna Kudriavtseva, a Registered Massage Therapist (RMT). That matters for one very practical reason: RMT treatments are covered by most extended health benefit plans — and we work with almost all major insurance companies.

How does it work?

After your massage, you receive an official RMT receipt with all the details your insurer needs. You submit that receipt to your insurance company — usually online or through their app — and they reimburse you according to your plan. It's simple, and most plans process massage claims quickly.

Good to know: we don't bill insurers directly — you pay for your session at your visit and claim it back through your plan. Coverage, annual limits and whether a doctor's note is required all depend on your specific plan.

Which plans does it work with?

We work with almost all major insurers. Because an RMT receipt is a recognized document, most extended health plans that include massage therapy will accept it. The details of your coverage — how many visits per year, the dollar limit, and any co-pay — are set by your plan, so it's always worth checking your benefits before you book.
